Match the hall to each event

Before you book, think about how guests will use the room. Will they be seated for a ceremony, moving between tables, or gathering around an open area? The same questions apply whether you’re choosing a Gaye Holud venue, a mehendi hall in Dhaka or a nikah venue. Tell the venue what you have planned and ask whether the layout, facilities and booked hours will suit it.

Gaye Holud and haldi

For a Gaye Holud or haldi, you may want an open layout that gives guests room to move, plus a stage that can be decorated to suit the celebration. If the event is during a warm part of the day, check that air conditioning is available throughout the hall. Ask about cleaning arrangements if your programme may involve turmeric or other materials.

Mehendi

Mehendi plans can call for a relaxed seating arrangement and space for guests to mingle. Ask whether tables and chairs can be moved to create an open area, and confirm the sound, lighting and power arrangements you need for your programme or artists.

Nikah and reception

For a nikah, consider where the guests will sit and how the stage will be used. A reception with dinner may need round tables and room for serving. Capacity can change with the layout: at Our Mezban, for example, the hall seats up to 200 in rows or around 120 at round tables. Ask the venue for the number that fits your planned setup.

If the couple will need a private room, or your caterer needs a serving counter and workspace, confirm those details before booking.

One hall for every event, or separate venues?

Using one hall for several events can mean coordinating with one venue team, but you will need each date to be available. Separate venues may give you more choice of dates, while requiring separate bookings and arrangements. Compare availability, travel for guests, setup and total cost before deciding.

Questions to ask a Gaye Holud venue

  • Is air conditioning available throughout the hall during your event hours?
  • How many guests fit in rows, and how many at round tables?
  • Is a stage available, and what decoration is included?
  • What sound, lighting and power facilities can you use?
  • Can the seating be rearranged during or between events?
  • Is separate seating for women available, and how is serving arranged?
  • Is there a private room for the couple and workspace for your caterer?
  • Are all your preferred dates available, and what are the booking and deposit terms?
